“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Joint press release in support of racial equity and justice.
June 9, 2020 (Official Joint Press Release: Please Share)
Just in time for Caribbean Heritage month, HCPA received a Proclamation from the City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and City Council this month. Unfortunately also during this time, the back-to-back deaths of unarmed Black men and women has polarized America and the world. HCPA joined forces with local entities to strategize on how we can collectively, yet effectively respond to this “tipping point” America is in. It’s no surprise that even though we as a Caribbean community continue to reach success in academia and in business, the looming backdrop of institutional and every day racism continues to negatively and violently affect the most Marginalized, Black and Brown in our society.
It is for this reason HCPA partnered with the Houston Urban League , The Clark Atlanta Alumni Houston Chapter, The Morehouse Alumni and Spelman Alumni Houston chapters respectively, and Houston Emerging 100 to organize events, such as a voter registration drive, to our respective stakeholders. We believe working together in collaboration with the community will enlarge our voice and affect great change in our society. “If you want to go quickly, go alone.
